Descendants of Robert Dunstone

Descendants of Robert Dunstone and Margaret his wife. Robert was born before 1551 in Mawgan in Meneage in Cornwall England and died in Wendron, Cornwall in May 1597.

Due to the locations of where my family lived, both as a child and as an adult, we were isolated from the extended family that many people enjoy. After one of our children asked “Do we have any of these people called cousins?” this family tree was started as an attempt to try to gather together those people. But as anyone into Genealogy knows it was never going to stop there. Having traced the family back to Robert Dunstone, who was born before 1551, in Cornwall England, he married Margaret on 25th September 1575 in Wendron, Cornwall, where many of their descendants remain until this day. Dduring the mid 1800’s when the mining Industry in Cornwall began to decline several of Roberts descendants immigrated to Australia.

Dunstone or Dunstan?
My direct ancestor, Henry Dunstone 1806-1865 and his brother John and their wives and families arrived in South Australia on the 14th November 1846 aboard the “Lady Bruce”. Interesting was the fact that the families boarded the boat as Dunstone, but from the moment Henry arrived in Australia he recorded his surname as Dunstan on every document or registration from then on. Whereas his brother John’s family were not as precise and some still use the surname Dunstone and others use Dunstan.

During research it became obvious that a number of other descendants of Robert Dunstone also came to Australia and out of interest sake these families have also been added to this tree. Many people have contributed their family information to this tree and my grateful thanks to them all. More information and corrections are always welcome and photographs are a real bonus.
